The Physical Education Department welcomes you to Golden Valley Middle School.  We will provide each student with the opportunity to succeed. We offer a well-rounded program that will enable our students to enhance a positive self-image towards the development of the “WHOLE PERSON.”  We appreciate and encourage the support and guidance of family members so that the students work toward obtaining the goals of our program, and whereby the student’s education will be a rich and rewarding educational experience that enhances their knowledge.  In order to achieve these goals it is necessary that the student follow the guidelines listed below:

Required Physical Education Clothes in J-4
  • Golden Valley P.E. shirt (available for purchase at Golden Valley for $10.00)
  • Golden Valley P.E. shorts (available for purchase at Golden Valley for $10.00)
  • Athletic shoes (provided by student). Boots, slippers, sandals, and “flats” are not acceptable.

Dressing
  1. Shirts and shorts will be sold in J-4 by the Golden Valley financial secretary. Plain black shorts and plain gold shirt are acceptable.
  2. All student’s shirts and shorts should be neatly marked in permanent marker with the student’s first name and last name along with their locker number on the white name block area only.
  3. All students will dress in their P.E. clothes for daily activities (school clothes are not acceptable).  Clean loan clothes will be provided on an emergency basis only.
  4. P.E. clothes are not to be loaned to or borrowed from another student.
  5. Sweatshirts and sweatpants may be worn with teacher’s discretion. Acceptable colors are solid black, or gray.  Sweats are not available for purchase at Golden Valley. 
  6. All P.E. clothes are to be brought to school Monday & taken home for cleaning at the end of the week on Friday.

Lockers/locks
  1. Students will be assigned a school combination lock and small locker.
  2. Students are not allowed to bring their own locks.
  3. The student will be responsible for memorizing his/her combination and locker number. 
      These numbers should not be shared with anyone!
  1. Long lockers are for use only during your P. E. period and then return items to small lockers and end of period. School books will not be kept in lockers.
  2. Students must not change or share small or long lockers with anyone.
  3. If a lock is lost, the student will be charged a replacement fee of $5.00.
  4. Students are encouraged to bring stick or roll on deodorant. Lotion, glass and aerosol cans are not allowed in the locker room.
**Lost locks can be replaced by purchasing a new lock from J4 for $5**

The Physical Education Department is not responsible for lost or stolen items.


Medical Excuses
  1. Everyone is expected to participate in physical education daily.   A doctor’s note is required for situations where student can not participate in class.
  2. Students will be required to dress even with an excused note if a physical limitation allows you to do so.
  3. Written assignments may be submitted for prolonged medical excuses.
  4. Instructors need prior notification of any preexisting disabilities or physical limitations.

Grading Policy
Grades will be earned in the following three (4) areas:
  1. Participation: 
a.     Participation, leadership, and sportsmanship.
b.     Listening, following direction, and asking questions.
c.     Trying your best even if the task seems difficult.
d.     Dressed & prepared for class and being on time.
e.     Attitude, behavior, and cooperation.
f.      Accepting constructive criticism.
      2. Unit Activity:
                  a. High level of effort - try your best!
                  b. Group cooperation
                  c. Play within the set by the teacher.
       3.  Running:  
                   a.   Various weekly running events.
                         1.  Knight Run 1/3 mile, Queen Run 1/2, & King Run 1 mile.
       4.  Testing & quizzes: Skill, Rules, Ca Fitness Gram
      

Physical Education Rules
  1. Get dressed and be on time to class. 
  2. Participate
  3. Demonstrate respect for others and keep hands, feet and comments to yourself.
  4. No food, drinks, or gum are allowed in the locker room or in the physical education class.
  5. For your safety, no dangling jewelry, long/spiked earrings, necklaces, neck chains, or bracelets.
  6. Valuables such as wallets, purses, cell phones, jewelry, or any electronic device should be locked in their locker during P.E. class. No electronic devices will be allowed outside during P.E.
  7. If you sustain an injury anytime during class, no matter how minor, report it immediately to your teacher.
